Art Teacher Life
In and Out of the Classroom
Student-Directed Classroom
Over the years, I have built a strong art curriculum and an array of resources including slideshows, themed activities, assessments, and more. Two years ago I transitioned from a traditional art-teaching style to a Choice-Based art program. The curriculum I've created blends both Missouri GLE's and National Visuals Art Standards.
Process and Assessment
It is very important to have a specific and meaningful direction in the art education world. I want to earn the same respect other classroom teachers earn by being rigorous and focused with classroom management and the artistic process. Assessment and reflection are a vital part of creating, and I use that to answer the four essential questions of the PLC process:
What do we want students to learn?
How will we know if they have learned?
What will we do if they don't learn?
How will we respond when they have learned?

Extras
Well versed in SMART Board technology, Google Drive, and creating original resources
Willing and able to learn and utilize new technologies
Directed art clubs grades 1st-12th grade
Experienced at organizing events such as art shows, assemblies, special school activities, and community events
Fresh Air
Observational drawing is an effective and fun artistic skill-builder. Giving students an opportunity to get out of the classroom and experience art in a different way is always a breath of fresh air- literally and metaphorically.
Heads Down, Hard at Work
After establishing basic routines and building artistic skills, it's wonderful to look at a classroom and see every student engaged in his/her work. Each artist designs their own project, choosing different themes, media, and messages to convey to the viewer.
GVC Art Show
I had the privilege of hosting and curating the 2019 Gasconade Valley Conference Art Show. The exhibit was displayed at Gallery Zeke in Steelville, Missouri; I am proud to say that our school took home 22 medals, Best of Show, and the Conference trophy.
