Striving for Growth
Teamwork
Some of my favorite and most challenging experiences come from working closely with my coworkers. I am a believer in the positive effects of the PLC process, and I have been an active member of the PBIS Team for 5 years. I have taken many roles outside of art educator, such as MAP Test facilitator, RtI teacher, summer school teacher, and mentor. I am happy to take on extra duties that allow camaraderie and growth among coworkers.
Networking
I am an active member of the Missouri Art Education Association. This group of incredible teachers has been my life-line even before I was a full-time educator. I do my best to go to every conference and bring back tools and strategies to immediately increase learning. Presenting at conferences from 2016 to the present has helped me gain confidence and introduced me to more opportunities within the organization.
Making Connections
Incorporating a variety of people, places, and subjects within the world of education connects learning to all aspects of life. In the Spring of 2017, I invited a Viburnum School Board member to be a visiting artist and show the students his unique art technique: making paper clip people! It was such a fun and different experience that allowed students and staff to see that art is everywhere, and everyone has something special and original to offer the world.
